Marshalls outsources national transport operations

Tóm tắt nội dung

Built environment solutions provider Marshalls has, for the first time, outsourced its national transport operations to Wincanton. The five-year deal will see the logistics company transport over 3.5 million tonnes of Marshalls products annually.

As part of the agreement, Wincanton will manage and operate the entirety of the Marshalls Landscape Products fleet, as well as managing Marshalls Landscape Products and Brick & Masonry subcontractors.

The other aspects of Marshalls’ business, Mortars & Screeds, Civils & Drainage, Landscape Protection and yard operations, will remain in-house at Marshalls, Wincanton has confirmed.

Wincanton has an existing five-year partnership with Marley Roofing Products, which was acquired by Marshalls in April 2022.

Simon Bourne, chief operating officer at Marshalls, said: “As our business has grown, so has the volume and complexity of items that we deliver and we’re at a point in our journey where we need to look at the future of this specialist area.

“Wincanton are a leading supply chain partner for many of the UK’s most recognisable brands and, as a long-term supplier to our roofing division Marley, we have an excellent opportunity to extend a highly successful relationship.

“By partnering with Wincanton, we will be taking advantage of their programme to invest in diesel-alternative fuel options, contributing to our sustainability goals. We’re also supporting our drive for continuous improvement for our customers, including improving delivery times, access to more specialist vehicles and consistent delivery tracking.”

As part of the partnership between the two companies, up to 300 Marshalls staff will join Wincanton and ‘a phased migration of Marshalls sites to Wincanton will take place in the coming months’.

Carl Hanson, managing director of group transport at Wincanton, added: “It is testament to the quality of our people and innovative technology that Marshalls has chosen to outsource its national transport network to Wincanton. EyeQ, our digital transport platform, will deliver quality, cost and sustainability benefits for Marshalls own and subcontractor vehicles.”

The EyeQ platform, Wincanton says, will ‘underpin a data-led solution to deliver a fully managed transport service regardless of who owns the vehicles’.

IntraLogisteX is coming back to the NEC, Birmingham on 19-20 March 2024, co-located with Robotics and Automation, plus the new Sustainable Supply Chain Exhibition. Click here to find out more about all three exhibitions and register for this unmissable event!
