XPO Logistics has announced that its shared-user distribution centre in Leicester, in the East Midlands, has been certified as a carbon neutral site.
This is the third XPO Logistics site to be certified as carbon neutral, the others being its partner site with Daimler Truck UK in Milton Keynes – which got its certification in June 2024 – and its UK and Ireland HQ and Central Hub in Crick, Northamptonshire – which was certified in the summer of 2023, six months ahead of schedule.
Dan Myers, managing director for the UK and Ireland at XPO Logistics, said: “As a team, we’re focused on taking meaningful steps to achieve our goal of carbon neutrality. We know there is still much to do, but our work makes a difference in decarbonising our customers’ supply chains and reducing their scope three emissions. This is yet another step towards our goal.”
Constructed to BREEAM Carbon Neutral standard, XPO’s Leicester site includes a range of other sustainability features such as metering and monitoring of water usage, as well as active zone controls and passive occupancy sensors for all LED lighting.
What’s more, XPO has said that ‘all energy supplied is derived from wind, solar and hydro energy’. Plus, it claims that by working with its waste contractor, the company has achieved ‘zero waste in landfills and high levels of segregation at the site, which drives a high recycling rate’.
